Row 1: Begin with a single crochet in first hole. Single crochet in previous hole, before last single crochet. This creates the
“X”. ^Skip one hole and SC in next hole. SC in previous hole. Repeat from ^creating “X”
stitches all around item.
This simple stitch can also be done with ahalf-double crochet for a little more fullness.
To End or tie off: Slip stitch into the beginning or the top corner of the row you began. Slip stitch again and pull your
thread up to loosen about an inch to an inch and a half. Cut thread in the center of this stitch (where your hook came out
of) and pull tightly. This will knot your beginning and ending. Then weave the tail into you last stitches
crocheted.
Fancy X Stitch:
Row 1: SC in first hole. Chain 3, keeping these on the top of row. Single crochet in previous
hole, (before last single crochet). This creates the “X”. ^Chain 1 and skip one hole, SC in
next hole, Chain 3, keeping these on the top of row. SC in previous hole . Repeat from ^
creating “X” stitches all around item. SL in first chain three to end and tie off.
This stitch is fun and quick. A 36” receiving blanket and burp can be done in one skein
of pearl cotton if you don’t crochet too loosely.
Grandma’s Ribbon Lace 1:
Row 1: Single crochet in each hole around item. SL in first stitch and
tie off.
Row 2: Ch 6, skip 3 sc, DC in next sc. ^Ch 3, skip 3 sc, DC in next SC. Ch 3, skip 3 sc,
DC in next 2 DC. Repeat from ^ around item.
Row 3: Ch 3, 3 DC in first ch 3 space. ^ 3DC in next Ch 3 space. CH 2 over 2 DC. 3DC in
next CH 3 space. CH1 over DC. Repeat from ^ around item.
Row 4: SL to CH1 space in necessary. ^SC in CH1, 1/2 DBLC in each of next 2 DC, DC in
each of next 2 DC. 3 TR in CH2 space, DC in each of next 2 DC, 1/2 DBLC in each of
next 2 DC. Large Shell created. Repeat from ^ around item and tie off.
Ribbon: Lace 1/4” or 3/8” ribbon through every other chain 3 space. One side will show
up with 2 DC in each space and the other side will show 1 DC in each space.
